Definition Majority - refers to legal age and varies from state to state; commonly eighteen to twenty-one.

Application in Divorce Except for the consumption of alcohol, a person achieves a majority in the United States at age eighteen in all jurisdictions for most purposes, including voting.

Generally, when a person achieves a majority, he is she is responsible for e his or her own actions and affairs.

In divorce actions, however, where a college education is a consideration, a lawful majority does not end the financial obligations of parents. Separation agreements, therefore, must reflect the payment of a college education and health insurance coverage.
